Taiwan has been approved a defence assistance package by the US president for a whopping $571 million, a move which is aimed at addressing the mounting worries surrounding the security of the Taiwan Strait. The approval highlights the quest of America to fortify Taiwan’s defence as China has been undertaking hostile military activities in the region, tensions and a confrontation with Taiwan are on the rise. The package comes as China has been increasing aggression towards Taiwan.
It will be employed to enhance Taiwan's strategic air defense. This comes with sophisticated equipment, qualified personnel, and programs meant to help ensure that Taiwan is capable of adequately defending itself. The Taiwanese consorts will also be provided with training in Zhuhai and the package covers the provision of radars and missile systems. These efforts by the US complement its wider efforts which seek to ensure Taiwan remains self-sufficient in its defenses from China.
